Jeannette Lee
Lauded by Boston Musical Intelligencer for her “warm mezzo tone”, Hong Kong mezzo- soprano Jeannette Lee is a sought-after versatile performer who has been recognized for her dedication to art songs as a prizewinner at Concurso Internacional de Canto Linus Lerner, the William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition, the George Shirley Vocal Competition, and the NATS Artist Awards (New England Region).
As a champion of new works, Jeannette premiered Simon Andrews’ Seasons with Brendon Shapiro in Catalyst New Music’s project: FUSE Collaboration in Song and did the East Coast premiere of Jenni Brandon’s Sea Smoke on Gichigami. She was the only invited vocalist in Boston University’s School of Music 150th Anniversary concert - collaborating with esteemed pianist and composer Martin Amlin on a set of Norman Dello Joio’s art songs.
Jeannette has been a frequent performer in Cantata Singers’ Chamber Series – a recital series curated by Alliston Voth, presenting themed art song recitals across the Boston community. This season, she presented selections of Steven Mark Kohn’s 27 Haikus with Jacob LyteHaven and was chosen to be part of Boston Singers Resource’s “An Emerald Necklace of Song”, curated by James Dargan, which celebrates New England’s incredible natural beauty. In partnership with her Source Song Festival collaborator Jing-Fang Huang, they are developing an interdisciplinary presentation of Sam Wu's Songs Across Aeons with the composer himself. This musical work, based on poems written in response to selected Chinese poetry in the Tang Dynasty, was initially commissioned by the Tianjin Juilliard School.
