Matteo Neri

Italian-born American composer Matteo Neri has a versatile musical background, with experience in composing operas, classical concert music, as well as music for visual media. Matteo's Spanish-language opera 'Escobar' was one of eight works selected from submissions throughout the western hemisphere for the 'Frontiers Showcase' at Fort Worth Opera in 2017. 'Escobar' received a rave review by Olin Chism of the Fort Worth Star Telegram, where he wrote "For me, the most successful of the eight excerpts was Matteo Neri’s 'Escobar'...The quality of the music was high, and the story was gripping." The full opera is currently being developed with Florida Grand Opera and librettist Alejandra Martinez; it will be premiered as a co-production in 2025. Matteo's one-act opera, 'Our Lobotomist,' a collaboration with librettist Edward Einhorn, was premiered at Yeoryia Studios (NYC) in February 2019.

Matteo was a composer for Comma Music, a leading music house for commercials, TV, and film, from 2016 to 2018. He worked in Los Angeles with Emmy Award winning composer Alex Wurman on a number of films and TV shows, including the Amazon series "The Patriot." Matteo's film credits include “The Kicking Yoda," which received the award for Best Documentary Short at the Los Angeles Film Awards.

Matteo's compositions and arrangements have been performed by many ensembles, including the Austin Opera Orchestra, Momenta Quartet, Helix! New Music Ensemble, Rutgers Symphony Orchestra, and the tenor group FORTE, who were finalists on America's Got Talent. He is a PhD candidate in Music Composition at Rutgers University, where he studies with Robert Aldridge.
